The NSW Government’s Rail Corp recently opened a new underground rail link on the north side of Sydney Australia. The new rail link included 3 new underground stations and the integration of the 2 existing stations at Epping and Chatswood. Pyrozone Low Pressure CO2 Fire Suppression Systems were chosen to protect the electrical switch rooms at each station based on the successful existing Pyrozone systems installed in the Airport Link underground stations in 1999.
As these stations are all underground to comply with town planning available space was at a premium. The Pyrozone systems are all located 3 levels underground and are connected to the street level by a Remote Filling system. This unique ability of Pyrozone systems enable them to be refilled direct from a gas delivery truck with no disconnection or removal of any system component.
Base Fire Protection Pty Ltd carried out the installation of 13 Pyrozone mini bulk storage units in the 3 new stations and 2 existing stations. Pyrozone Australia’s Ian Tronc was on hand to supervise the initial filling of the systems which was done by BOC Gases.
